Background

TheHarvardUniversityincollaborationwithSaintPaul’sHospitalMillenniumMedicalCollegewillbeconductingalongitudinalsurveyofmothersandchildreninNorthShewa, Amhara region, in a collaborative project of Supporting Child Morbidity and Mortality Surveillance. TheproposedinitiativewillhelptounderstandtheepidemiologyofchildhooddiseasesinEthiopia,wewillfocusonfourmainobjectives: –

1. Determinetheincidenceofpneumonia,diarrhea,andfebrileillnessesamongchildren<5
2. Identifysevereillnessesanddeathsinthecatchmentpopulation(communityandhealthfacilities)amongpregnantwomen and children<5years old and identify risk factors for mortality.
3. Trackchangesinpublichealthinterventionsandacuteillnesspresentationsandmortalityovertimetoassesstheimpactofhealthinterventionsamongchildren<5years
4. Build the capacity of Federal Ministry of Health and local institutions in the generation local evidence for action and facilitate the uptake of evidence on child health morbidity and mortality.

The supervisor will supervise coordinate and maintain field data collection.

3. EnsuresthatdatacollectionandsupervisionareexecutedsuccessfullyandcompletedwithintimeframessetforroundVisitsofhouseholds:
4. Actastheprimaryadministrativepointofcontactforinternalresearchstaffandexternalpartnersorstakeholders;
5. EnsurethatdatacollectionandrelatedactivitiesareimplementedasrecommendedintheSOP;
6. EnsureEthicalproceduresarestrictlyfollowedandfieldteammembersexhibitappropriateandlocallyacceptablebehaviorwhileinthecommunity;
7. Takeappropriatemeasureandreportimmediatelytotheprojectcoordinatorwhenthereisanevidenceointentionaldatamanipulationbyaresearchteammember;
8. Designandreviseresearchinstrumentsinconsultationwiththecenter’scoordinatortoensurequalitydatathatcorrelateswithresearchobjectivesofthecenter.
9. Developandmaintainrecordsofresearchactivities,andpreparesperiodicandadhocreports,asrequiredbyresearchcoordinator or research center’s council.
10. Make a cartographic display of the field areas as well as prepare an identification code of each field area.
11. Preparetabular,graphicanddiagrammaticdisplayofmajordemographicandhealthrelatedoutcomes;
12. Help researchers or other stakeholders visiting the field ;
13. Accountable to the research center coordinator.

Minimum Requirements:

• BSc in midwifery/Nursing/Publichealthwith2+ years experience
• Preferable if he/she have _previous Work experience related to supervision/data collection

Able to read and write English, Amharic,(Knowledge of Afan Oromo is a plus
